I love to be immersed in painting, to be literally saturated in color. There's something magical for me about the ability to literally move light around at the tips of your fingers. The stuff that everything is made of. It's a multidimensional activity where a relationship is formed between myself and the painting, where it takes on a life of its own and communicates to me its own needs and desires.
I've been making art since I was a child, being selected as the class artist if the opportunity arose. If there were any backdrops that needed painting, or anything requiring paint, that was on me. I've enjoyed participating in art making in all its forms.
I always took art classes in college and wherever I could, but I actually majored and earned a degree in Interior Design thinking that it would be a way I could "make money" doing something creative and related to art. Little did I understand that the Artist archetype is my default and interior design was never me, even though I love creating beauty and being in beautiful spaces.
I still had shows here and there and sold my art here and there, but also had the confused, conflicted, imaginary, archetypal artist spirit that led me on many adventures and gave me massively transformative life experiences. My spiritual life is very important to me. Yoga and meditation have been a big part of my life for over 20 years and takes part in influencing my art.
During college I helped paint faux finishes as well as murals in high end homes where I was taught by my dear friend and mentor Aram Melkonian. He was educated as a classical artist in Moscow, and whenever I feel stuck with an art piece even today, I call on him to shed light and illuminate my understanding.
Born in Poland, coming to the US via Italy as a small child and moving to the US in 1988 on the wave of a massive political turning point, my culture and upbringing have shaped me tremendously. From childhood until now I have moved over 20 times and I believe it's given me a certain stability that I had to find within myself.
I now reside in Felton, California in the beautiful Santa Cruz mountains with my two amazing young kids and our three teenage cats. I love animals. Community, dance, gatherings, music, and saturating myself in nature are integral to my life. I seek to find expression of my experiences in my artwork in more refined and articulated ways.
